Overview of MTE

The Mentoring, Training, and Employment Project (MTE) provides employment and other services to low-income individuals. These services are designed to promote economic independence and self-sufficiency.

The MTE Project operates out of the Major Adams Youth and Family Development Academy. MTE works in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Bureau of Employment Services and the Illinois Department of Public Aid ’s Division of Child Support Enforcement and Non-Custodial Parents Services Unit. The project provides an opportunity for non-custodial parents and Earnfare eligible individuals to achieve self-sufficiency while actively contributing to the economic
stability of their children and to the community in which they live.

Clients are served for a period of six months with an extension based upon need and the completion of one confirmed retention. In addition, MTE has services between 100 and 120 non-eligible clients per contract year.

Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives of MTE include the following:

- To provide intake, orientation, pre-employment training, educational, parenting, and other services to clients
- To meet project goals for placing participants in unsubsidized employment. These jobs must pay at least minimum wage and employ the participant for at least 20 hours per week.
- To provide transportation to all eligible clients who are participating in approved programming.
